How to get the most from a consultation:

We here at Mack Landscape understand it can be a daunting and unnerving experience speaking about your desired yard space. It isn't necessarily commonplace to know tree, shrub, or perennial names nor do we expect you to. We understand that landscape themes and aesthetics are a difficult thing to articulate, much like cheese or wine tastings.

The most important thing to understand is that your tastes are as unique as your are. Understanding your tastes is crucial for the initial meeting to be productive. Having photos of a neighbors property, from the internet, or consumer websites (like Houzz) is crucial for our designer to get to know what you want.
Our Houzz Page

What to expect from the initial Phone Call:

"What is the scale of the project?"

Does the project include hardscaping (patios, decks, pools, structures etc.), beds, walkways, and how many square feet is the area.

It is okay if much of this is dependent on our recommendations.  And, we can measure with you at your property.  But if we know generally what the project entails, we can bring materials to help you articulate what you want and guide you in your decisions.

"What would you use the space for?"

Sunbathing, sensory focused garden, play, entertaining, etc.

What is it that is important to you.  What do you want that your yard lacks now, in other words.

"Is there any style you prefer or any yards you admire around your neighborhood?"

We want to understand your sense of style, taste, and intention for your future landscape.  That way we can present viable options that suit you and your personality.

What to expect at the Initial Consultation:

We will always try to schedule a meeting when you are available i.e. Early Morning, Evenings, or Weekends. Whenever YOU are available.

We will bring material catalogues to help you navigate paver and plant material as well as photos of projects we have done or admire that may inspire you!

We will take the time to walk the property together, to discuss the objectives at length, and then sit down to go over the following questions.  In the end, it will save time and keep everyone happy.  We also understand that these decisions most likely take two people agreeing upon the budget, the types of material, and the timeline of installation.

We will schedule a time when all the decision makers are available!

"What is your desired installation and completion date?"

This question is crucial on our end. Many customers go away in the summer time which happens to be our peak season for hardscape work (patios, walkways, outdoor kitchens, etc.). Some of our customers prefer to be there while the installation is happening to make sure everything is running smoothly and done correctly. Some customers enjoy not witnessing the mess or hearing the noise.

This is a question of your needs so we can understand them and do our best to meet them.

"What is your budget?"

This question can make some customers uncomfortable. It shouldn't. Often, we are asked to give ballpark figures for projects with many items, materials, and complicating factors. We understand that this gives a customer some idea of what the bill will look like. We want to know the same. Installations, be it planting, hardscape, drainage, etc. are an investment on your end as is the time we take to design a plan and price an estimate on our end.

This number helps us expedite the project by picking materials that will get you as close to your dream as possible the first time while staying within a budget.

Mack Landscape can guide you through the decisions you will make:

  1. We can provide images of previous projects, plant photos, paver installations, and inspiration via other projects we think are exemplary,
  2. We can take you to a nursery so you can see the plants we are recommending first hand.
  3. We can bring actual samples of paving products so you can touch and see what is being recommended by us.
  4. We will do whatever it takes to make you feel taken care during the whole process. We know from experience there are questions that arise throughout the design-build process. The more the better!

The Bottomline:

These tips will expedite the project and lead to an enjoyable experience that is both timely and meets all of your expectations.
